Outdoor and online psychotherapy in alliance with the Earth.
Stockport/High Peak area
-
I am an experienced psychotherapist working with adult individuals and groups in the Stockport/High Peak area. I offer outdoor and online counselling psychotherapy supporting people from all walks of life, race, gender, sexual orientation and neurodivergence. My approach is ground up with an ecological mindset and there is a flow to the work that is natural and collaborative.
-
My ‘ground up’ philosophy means that I work from a solid I’m OK you’re OK standpoint with the client's viewpoint on themselves as the most authentic. That means I am open to learning about each client and supporting the development of self-curiosity and self-compassion. I am happy to provide my ideas/interpretations and suggestions, but I never fall into the trap of believing I know best.
“Look out the other’s window. Try to see the world as your ‘client’ sees it.”

My experience is that psychotherapy can help people make profound changes in their lives and relationships. This happens through a greater understanding of ourselves and why we think, feel and behave in certain ways. That understanding enables us to accept ourselves and make changes with the guidance of a safe and supportive psychotherapist.
I believe that we are not broken we are all just looking for ways to grow. We are all born with the ability to give and receive love. As we make our way in the world we decide the best ways to survive and cope with our circumstances. Some of these ways may help us grow and reach our potential and some may hold us back. Some of the coping mechanisms we learnt as children were great strategies for survival but now they limit us. As adults we can make new choices and change some old decisions, beliefs and limiting strategies. I support finding a greater self-acceptance and compassion – the foundation of growth and development.
-
I work with adults over 18 either individually or in a group.
I have training in and experience of working with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, trauma (including abuse), eating/body issues, grief/bereavement, addiction and others.
I am also a neurodivergent–informed therapist with extensive experience of working with neurodivergence including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia. I myself am neurodivergent.
I am also an intersectionality-informed therapist supporting people from all walks of life, background, race, gender, sexual orientation.
I am very aware of my own differences – as a twin, a neurodiverse person and so I don’t expect my clients to be more like me. I don’t want my clients to change to my definition of ‘healthy’ or ‘functioning’.
Key Issues
-
Everyone feels sad, sometimes, particularly with issues such as illness, divorce, job loss etc. But if your sadness persists and interferes with daily activities you might actually be depressed.
People who have depression tend to feel helpless and hopeless (every day) and can blame themselves for their depression. They may then withdraw from family and friends. And some people start to contemplate death or suicide.
If you think you are depressed, I recommend you talk to your GP. Also through psychotherapy I can help you with your depression, talking to a trustworthy and experienced professional will help you feel supported, explore your issues and develop coping skills.
-
Anxiety can be distressing, highly damaging and disabling. It can prevent you from achieving your potential in many areas of life – work, family and friends. If you have anxiety be aware that it affects 1 in 20 adults and is the most common form of mental issue in the UK. The causes are many and unique to each person – whether it be childhood issues, traumatic experiences, or years of poor health. Anxiety can be a coping mechanism you have developed to help you survive in a difficult world and then become a vicious cycle where you feel anxious about the fact you are feeling anxious.
As a psychotherapist I can support you to address your anxiety and help you find the causes of your anxiety and the self-awareness and self-belief to reduce it.
-
We all strive for love but relationships are complicated because people are complicated. Many of us lead busy, stressful lives and have our own very definite ideas about life. These issues often result in arguments, misunderstanding and poor communication with those closest to us. These conflicts can often leave us feeling sad, rejected, angry and confused.
If you are suffering because of relationship issues psychotherapy can help you. I will support you to understand yourself and your partner and why you relate to each other the way you do (including patterns from childhood). I will help you to build healthier patterns of communication, respect and relating to each other.
